No human insight can ever rival the divine wisdom of God. When life falls apart, we often struggle to understand why bad things happen to good people. In the Book of Job (Job 9:1-16), Job recognizes that he cannot match God’s majestic power or question His overarching plan. Even when Job’s friends urge him to confess uncommitted sins, Job maintains his integrity. He realizes that while he cannot demand answers from the Almighty, he can humbly seek grace to accept God’s sovereign will through every personal trial.
Turning to God in Times of Distress
When life overwhelms us, our best recourse is relentless prayer. In Psalm 88, the psalmist pours out a raw, desperate plea for help in the middle of deep personal suffering. Even when God feels distant or silent, true faith keeps reaching out. The heart of the believer echoes that persistent refrain: “Lord, let my prayer come before you!” Instead of turning away in anger, we must bring our grief, confusion, and doubts directly to the One who grants us life.
Breaking Free From Delay and Excuses
Following Christ demands an immediate, undivided response—not a comfortable compromise. In Luke 9:57-62, several potential followers offer reasonable excuses to delay their discipleship, asking first to settle family affairs or bid farewell to loved ones. Jesus responds with uncompromising clarity: genuine discipleship requires leaving our old lives behind without looking back. While this sounds harsh, Christ challenges us to elevate the kingdom of God above all competing priorities, including family ties, career ambitions, and social acceptance.
Putting Christ First in Everyday Life
Surrendering fully to God does not mean abandoning our daily responsibilities; it means reordering our hearts. When we place Jesus at the center of our lives, we actually become better family members, more faithful friends, and more dedicated workers. Rather than conforming to social pressure or staying silent about our convictions, we are called to live authentic, courageous lives anchored in the Gospel.
As children, many of us played “Follow the Leader” for fun. Today, the ultimate Leader calls us to follow Him with unwavering commitment. Are you ready to stop making excuses and give Him your total “yes”?
